Snowmobile trails

Snowmobiles are permitted only at certain state recreation areas under specific conditions. Those who choose to ride snowmobiles at state recreation areas must register their snowmobiles and have a valid park entry permit affixed to the front of the vehicle. Information on registering a snowmobile is available on the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles website.
ATVs and snowmobiles are allowed on frozen (8 inches thick) lake surfaces at the following areas:
- Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area
- Louisville State Recreation Area
- Olive Creek State Recreation Area
- Pawnee State Recreation Area
- Rockford State Recreation Area
- Sherman Reservoir State Recreation Area
- Stagecoach State Recreation Area
- Summit Lake State Recreation Area
- Sutherland Reservoir State Recreation Area
- Swanson Reservoir State Recreation Area
- Wagon Trail State Recreation Area
- Walgren Lake State Recreation Area
- Willow Creek State Recreation Area
Additionally, when there is a minimum of 6 inches of snow on the ground, Branched Oak and Lewis and Clark state recreation areas both offer 5 miles of snowmobile trails. Niobrara State Park offers 2 miles of trails.
