State Recreation Area
2787 County Road G | Tekamah, NE 68061
Located in northeastern Nebraska, Summit Lake State Recreation Area is a 190-acre lake, surrounded by 345 acres of land. The area offers fishing, boating, hiking, hunting, swimming and camping opportunities. The park also features equestrian trails for those bringing horses, along with a playground, horseshoe pits and an archery range.
All boating is permitted at Summit Lake State Recreation Area, though boaters must observe a 5 mph speed limit on the no-wake lake, making it a great place to kayak or canoe. The area has two ramps and five docks.
Summit offers excellent fishing opportunities for all anglers, and the recent addition of jetties give bank anglers access to deeper water. Bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie and walleye are all stocked in the lake. There is one fish-cleaning station.
Summit Lake SRA features the recent addition of a 10 mile equestrian trail around the lake. Now called Centennial Trail, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Nebraska State Parks, the trail features lakeside views, hilltop vistas, and even a shallow water crossing (approx. 2 feet deep). Parking and trailhead are near the park entrance on the northwest end of the lake. Thank you to the Nebraska Horse Trails Committee and Papio Missouri NRD for their assistance in the development of this trail!
Summit offers two miles of hike-bike trails.
Hunting is permitted on the area starting the first Tuesday after Labor Day through the end of Spring Turkey Season. Please review the Agency Hunting Guides for updated information. Target Shooting Is Prohibited on the area.
The area offers over 70 picnic tables, 64 grills and two picnic shelters.
A swimming beach is popular with park visitors during the warmer months. No lifeguards are on duty.
The area also offers a playground and an archery range. Visitors must bring their own archery equipment.
Summit Lake SRA offers 43 Electric Plus campsites and 25 non-electric, Basic campsites. Primitive overnight equestrian camping is available, but guests must get Park Superintendent approval due to limited space or campsite conditions.
Water, dump station, coin operated shower house, and primitive restrooms, are available. Campers can fill with fresh water at the hydrant located in front of the shower house.
Camping reservations are available for roughly 75% of the Electric Plus campsites these sites will have a sign stating that they are reservable. All other camping is first-come, first-served. Campers must register their nightly camping fees in a raised, locked box called an Iron Ranger. Self-service envelopes are provided at each station and accept cash or checks only.
