Join the community science effort to track Nebraska's butterfly species.
Nebraska Big Butterfly Count is a community-science project designed to determine the diversity of butterflies in Nebraska. Participants choose the location they would like to survey. Surveys should be completed a minimum of once a month from May through September. The results are recorded and entered into a database. The information collected is used to establish baseline data of the diversity of butterflies in the state, distribution of species, and help inform butterfly-related conservation.
You must attend a butterfly count training to participate in this project. Check out our Outdoor Calendar for upcoming training events or contact jamie.bachmann@nebraska.gov
By registering your count location and submitting information about what you saw each time you survey, you are making a difference to our knowledge of butterflies in Nebraska. Use the buttons below to register your count site or to enter count data.
This community science project is in collaboration with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, Nebraska Master Naturalist, and the Nebraska Natural Legacy Project.
Thank you to the Nebraska Environmental Trust for providing support for this project.
