Located just off Interstate-80 in western Nebraska, Sutherland Reservoir State Recreation Area features a 3,000-surface-acre lake, ideal for fishing, boating and swimming. With its shaded picnic areas and plenty of primitive campsites, Sutherland Reservoir SRA provides a peaceful setting to relax and enjoy nature.
Sutherland Reservoir offers great fishing for channel catfish, freshwater drum, walleye, smallmouth bass, wipers and yellow perch. An ADA accessible pier is available, and a fish cleaning station is located at the inlet.
Sutherland also has a designated wildlife hunting area and trap shooting ranges. Hunting opportunities at include dove, pheasant and waterfowl.
All types of boats are permitted at the lake, which offers three ramps and two boat docks. Water sports of all kind are very popular.
The area offers one unsupervised swim beach.
Numerous picnic tables and 33 grills give park visitors many opportunities to cook out or spend time together enjoying meals.
Don’t forget to pack your golf clubs before you head to the lake! The privately-owned Oregon Trail Golf Course is a nine-hole golf course located along the north shore.
Sutherland Reservoir SRA offers 22 Electric Plus sites and over 100 primitive sites. Water and vault restrooms are available to campers. Primitive campsites are located on the east and west sides of the lake.
All camping is first come, first served year round. Campers must register their nightly camping fees in a raised, locked box called an Iron Ranger. Self-service envelopes are provided at each station and accept cash or checks only.
Park Pricing
A park entry permit is required to visit state parks and may be purchased at the park, statewide Game and Parks offices and permit vendors, or in advance of your arrival online. View those fees, as well as attraction and amenity pricing.
Reservations
Reservations are accepted for cabins, lodge rooms, and group lodges up to one year in advance of the arrival date. Reservations for camping are accepted up to 180 days in advance of arrival date. The Reservation Call Center hours are Monday-Friday 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. (CT) and closed on holidays.
