Cheyenne SRA’s new campground opens May 23

Outdoor enthusiasts have a new destination to explore in south-central Nebraska: the new campground at Cheyenne State Recreation Area, which opens May 23.

Conveniently located off Interstate 80 at the Wood River Exit 300, the campground features 21 electrical campsites with 50-amp service, including two Americans with Disabilities Access-compliant sites, and two nonelectric tent sites for traditional camping experiences.

Cheyenne SRA is a comfortable and convenient fishing, boating and outdoor recreation getaway. Campers and day visitors will enjoy modern amenities, including a restroom, fresh water-fill hydrant, vault toilet and boat ramp.

“This new campground represents our continued investment in outdoor recreation and accessibility,” said Laura Rose, Nebraska Game and Parks’ south-central regional park superintendent. “We’re excited to welcome campers to experience all Cheyenne SRA has to offer.”

The campground project was paid for by the Capital Maintenance Fund, which was established by the Nebraska Legislature to help preserve Nebraska’s public outdoor recreation facilities and parklands.
