Boy drowns at Lake McConaughy

Nebraska Game and Parks Commission conservation officers are investigating the drowning of a 7-year-old boy at Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area on Aug. 6.

At about 8:30 p.m. Mountain time, two children from Ogallala were found unresponsive in the water.

Bystanders began CPR and called 911. Responding officers and emergency medical personnel took over lifesaving efforts upon arrival.

A 5-year-old girl was taken to Ogallala Community Hospital in stable condition.

Nebraska Game and Parks is keeping its thoughts with the family during this difficult time. As the recreation season continues, it reminds all visitors to Nebraska’s lakes and parks to prioritize water safety.
