Swanson’s low-water boat ramp open again

The low-water boat ramp at Swanson Reservoir State Recreation Area has reopened following minor repairs, but boaters should use caution as the lake elevation is down.

Only small boats are suggested as there is a flat off the end of the ramp with less than 2 feet of depth. This continues for about 40 yards until water becomes deeper. Larger, deep-V bottom boats may struggle to launch due to inadequate depths.

No dock is in place at the low-water ramp, which is located on the south shore, but there is a plan to install one once the water level rises.

During the low-water ramp’s closure, a section of ramp was removed and repoured, and riprap was placed adjacent to the ramp perimeter.

The Trail 3 ramp remains closed for a renovation project and is expected to reopen in spring 2027. This project will improve boating access and provide additional protection from wind and waves.
