Sherman Reservoir has road closure

A portion of 796th Road north of Sherman Reservoir Wildlife Management Area in Sherman County is closed temporarily due to road construction.

The county is repairing a washed-out culvert on 796th Road, with the closure extending from Sherman Trial 10 to at least County Road 480 Ave. Trail 8, which provides access to the WMA and state recreation area from the north, will be closed during this project.

Sherman Reservoir WMA is a pheasant release site for the Special Youth Hunt during the Oct. 18-19 youth pheasant season. To access the release area, between trails 10 and 12, mentors and youth must arrive on 796th Road from the west.

Because Trail 8 is a popular hunting area, the project will affect regular pheasant season hunters, whose season opens Oct. 25.

The closure is expected to last at least through the November firearm deer season, which is Nov. 15-23.
