Gallagher Canyon is a 400-acre irrigation impoundment with 24 acres of recreation land in a secluded and beautiful setting. Gallagher Canyon has outstanding scenery and some of the state’s best fishing for crappies and line-busting flathead and channel catfish. The park also offers a perfect spot to unwind under the stars, offering peaceful stargazing far from city lights. The journey there can be an adventure, so travelers should take note to turn west onto Dr. 752 from Rd 422 when venturing to the park.
Gallagher Canyon is part of the Central Irrigation District Supply Canal. The area provides water access to more than 10 miles of the canal and is open to all boats. However, it is a no-wake zone. The canal connects with the Plum Creek Reservoir and Johnson Lake. One ramp and one dock are available.
Gallagher Canyon offers good spring crappie fishing in the coves, as well as channel and flathead catfish. Drum and carp are common catches also. Fishing is also available for walleye, sauger, white bass and freshwater drum.
Gallagher Canyon has over a dozen picnic tables and grills.
Gallagher Canyon SRA offers Primitive camping. All campsites are first come, first serve year-round. The heavily wooded campground offers 30 campsites with no electricity. Fire pits and tables are scattered throughout the campground. Primitive restrooms are available. There are no showers, drinking water or dump and fill stations.
Park Pricing
A park entry permit is required to visit state parks and may be purchased at the park, statewide Game and Parks offices and permit vendors, or in advance of your arrival online. View those fees, as well as attraction and amenity pricing.
Reservations
Reservations are accepted for cabins, lodge rooms, and group lodges up to one year in advance of the arrival date. Reservations for camping are accepted up to 180 days in advance of arrival date. Call the Reservation Call Center at 1-844-637-2757 (1-844-NEPARKS) or book online.
