Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center is a unique combination of shooting range and education center. It was developed to help young and inexperienced shooters develop their shooting and archery skills, as well as to provide veteran shooters with advanced instruction. The Outdoor Education Center offers an indoor firearm range and indoor and outdoor archery ranges that are open to the public six days a week. Additionally, the center offers archery and firearm classes and workshops for both youth and adults, as well as day camps, Hunter Education classes and special events. The center is available for birthday parties, corporate events and other private events, and offers two classrooms for rental. Call the center for details.

The Outdoor Education Center is located at 44th and Superior in the City of Lincoln’s rustic Helen Boosalis Park. From I-80 take the 56th Street Exit and turn right onto Superior Street to 44th Street. The park is flanked by Lincoln Trap and Skeet on the east and Salt Creek on the west.

Hours

The center and indoor and ranges are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from noon to 8 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. the center is closed on Wednesday.

The outdoor archery range is open from sunrise to sunset 365 days a year.

Ranges

Indoor firearm range

The state-of-the-art 25-yard indoor firearm range accommodates rifles up to 30/06 Springfield and handguns up to 44 Remington Magnum.

Indoor archery range

The 25-meter indoor archery range offers bullseye targets, 3-D targets and crossbow targets.

Outdoor archery range

The outdoor range offers target archery with targets from 10 to 60 yards, as well as a 20-station field archery course.

Shooting and equipment rental rates

Indoor archery range

  • $3 per hour per lane for youth 15 and under
  • $10 per hour per lane for adults
  • $250 annual pass, individual
  • $300 annual pass, family
  • $2.50 per person for rental of bows and arrows

Indoor firearm range

  • $5 hour per lane for youth 15 and under
  • $12 per half hour per lane for adults
  • $20 per hour per lane for adults
  • $325 annual pass, individual
  • $400 annual pass, family
  • $5.50 per person for small bore gun rental with 25 rounds

Outdoor archery range

  • Free for youth 15 and under
  • $3 per hour for adults
  • $40 annual pass, individual
  • 60 annual pass, family

Classroom use

  • $75 per day
  • $200 banquet fee for use of classrooms and archery range

Total shooting sports package

Includes unlimited access to all three ranges with no additional general shooting costs

In recent years, the popularity of archery among youth has exploded. The Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center offers the following classes and resources for youth interested in learning the basics or honing their skills.

Come join us at the Nebraska Outdoor Education Center every Wednesday night this semester to work on YOUR archery skills! Bring your own equipment or use facility equipment available at no additional cost! Coaches and Range Safety Officers available for beginners and those seeking shooting advice!

$5 per Wednesday or $80 per Semester to get a whole month free

Explore archery

Explore Archery is perfect for youth age 8 and up looking to learn the basics of archery. Students learn archery fundamentals, range safety and proper shooting form, play exciting games and earn achievement awards. Equipment is provided. Cost is $40 for 8 weeks. Membership in USA archery is available for those who wish to participate in the award program. Call the center to learn about upcoming sessions.

Junior Olympic Archery Development

Junior Olympic Archery Development, also known as JOAD, is a USA Archery-sanctioned 10-week program intended for young archers age 8 to 20 interested in developing their archery skills. This fun and extremely popular program offers expert instruction, skills training and games designed to challenge students and help them develop their form, as well as achievement awards. Equipment is provided. Cost is $40 per 10 weeks. Membership in USA Archery is required. Call the center to learn about upcoming sessions.
