Camping at Rock Creek Station State Recreation Area near Fairbury will close for the season Nov. 11, 2024, to allow for improvements at the campground. Work is expected to continue until late spring. The improvements include upgrading all 25 electrical campsites to 50-amp service.
Rock Creek Station State Recreation Area is a 40-acre campground adjacent to Rock Creek Station State Historical Park. Campers can enjoy the beautiful campground and the historical park visitor center and grounds. Reservations are accepted for half of the Electric campsites.
Rock Creek Station State Historical Park is adjacent to Rock Creek Station SRA, encompassing 350 acres of prairie hilltops, timber-studded creek bottoms, and rugged ravines. Deep ruts, carved by the many wagons that traveled the Oregon and California trails remain plainly visible at this picturesque park. Rich history and beautiful scenery draw visitors from near and far. Attractions include reconstructed historic buildings, living history demonstrations and a visitor center. Enjoy a scenic picnic or barbecue at one of Rock Creek Station’s 38 picnic spots, all of which include grills. The area also has three picnic shelters.
Explore six miles of trails at Rock Creek Station State Recreation Area and the adjacent historical park. The non-motorized, multi-use trails wind through beautiful native grasses and wooded areas. Trail-goers and nature enthusiasts will enjoy the creeks and historic sites along the way. For horseback riders, a horse staging area and the trailhead is located adjacent to the equestrian campground.
Rock Creek Station SRA offers Electric, Basic and Basic Equestrian campsites. There are 25 camping pads with 30-amp electrical hookups. The campground has a modern shower and restroom building for those who are registered to camp. Drinking water and a dump and fill station are available.
Camping reservations are available for half of the electrical campsites. All other camping is first-come, first-served and campers must register their nightly camping fees in a raised, locked box called an Iron Ranger. Self-service envelopes are provided at each Iron Ranger station which accept check or cash only. Iron Rangers are generally located near the park entrance or in the campground area. On-site camping informational signs are provided to help guide campers with the self-registration process.
Rock Creek Station State Recreation Area has a Basic Equestrian camping horse camp area that includes 20 individual corrals that are set in groups of four, water for horse and rider, picnic tables, grills, Basic camping and a day use area. Riders can access the six miles of trails directly from the equestrian campground. All equestrian camping and corrals are on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Park Pricing
A park entry permit is required to visit state parks and may be purchased at the park, statewide Game and Parks offices and permit vendors, or in advance of your arrival online. View those fees, as well as attraction and amenity pricing.
Reservations
Reservations are accepted for cabins, lodge rooms, and group lodges up to one year in advance of the arrival date. Reservations for camping are accepted up to 180 days in advance of arrival date. The Reservation Call Center hours are Monday-Friday 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. (CT) and closed on holidays.
