Hunter Education FAQs

Find answers to frequently asked questions about hunter education requirements, courses, certification options and more.

You can sign up to be notified when a course is scheduled near you here. You may also purchase an apprentice hunter education exemption certificate that temporarily exempts you from hunter and bowhunter education requirements. See “Hunter Education Info” above for more information on the exemption certificate.

  1. On a computer, tablet or mobile phone, go to www.gooutdoorsne.com/login.
  2. Click the “Recreational User” button.
  3. Log in (if you already have a username and password – then skip to step 6) OR click on “Lookup Account”.
  4. Select an “ID Type” from the drop-down menu and click “Submit.”
  5. Enter the information requested for the selected ID Type and click “Submit.”
  6. Click “Hunter Education and Certifications.”
  7. Click “Print” to download, save and print your permanent certificate(s).

Still can’t locate your certificate?

  • If you recently completed an in-person Hunt Safe Session, Firearm Hunter Education, Bowhunter Education, or Combination Firearm/Bowhunter Education course in Nebraska, please wait up to 5 days from the last class date for the instructors to enter the results and check your Nebraska Game and Parks permit account again to access your permanent certificate.
  • If you recently completed the Nebraska Online Firearm and Bowhunter Combination course or Online Course for Bowhunter Education, wait 24-48 hours and check your Nebraska Game and Parks permit account again to access your permanent certificate.
  • If you completed the Hunter Education course in another state, you will have to contact that state’s fish and wildlife agency for your permanent certificate.
  • If none of the above scenarios apply, please contact us by phone at 402-471-0641 or fill out our Contact Us form.

Yes. Nebraska accepts hunter education certificates as proof of firearm hunter education from all 50 states. However, hunter education completed in another state does not meet the requirements for bowhunter education. Nebraska accepts bowhunter education certificates from other states.

No. Students age 11 through 15 must attend an in-person classroom course or a hybrid course (online and in-person requirements).

No. Nebraska hunter or bowhunter education certificates cannot be issued to anyone under the age of 11. Students must be at least 11 years old by the last scheduled class date to earn certification. Those under the age of 11 on the last scheduled class date are welcome to attend a course but will have to retake the course once they are 11 years old to earn certification.

No. You do not need hunter or bowhunter education certification to apply for a draw/lottery or to purchase a permit, but you may need certification or an apprentice hunter education exemption certificate before you can legally hunt, depending on your age. See “Hunter Education Info” above for more information.

Yes. If you are under the age of 30, you will need certification or an apprentice hunter education exemption certificate before you can legally hunt. See “Hunter Education Info” above for more information.

No. Your permanent firearm and/or bowhunter education number is listed on your permanent certificate(s). You can access your permanent certificate(s) on the permit website. See “How do I access my Hunter Education Certificate?” above for more information. If you can’t locate your certificate in your permit account, contact us at 402-471-0641 or online here.

If you completed an in-person or online class and received a temporary certificate via email, it can take up to 48 hours from the time you received the email for your number(s) to generate in your permit account. If your certificate does not generate after 48 hours, contact us at 402-471-0641 or online here.

Yes. You must attend all scheduled classes to earn certification, even if you only want one certification.
