Wildwood WMA ramp reopens after boating access project

Wildwood Wildlife Management Area’s boat ramp and east parking area has reopened after a boat launch improvement project.

Users now can enter the east access road off Northwest 84th Street, leading to the boat ramp and parking lot at the WMA south of Valparaiso.

This project addressed issues of heaved and cracked concrete on the boat ramp. Other improvements of the project include:

  • Shoreline riprap has been added near the boat ramp for protection.
  • Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant parking and sidewalk access to the boat ramp and fishing pier has been upgraded to meet current standards.
  • The layout of the parking lot has been modified to improve visibility and traffic flow, with wooden posts being used to guide the parking of vehicles and trailers.
  • A rock shore launch for paddle craft which has been built to reduce congestion at the boat ramp. Near that launch, a semi-circle loading/unloading zone has been built into the design of the parking lot.

Overall, the renovation of the boat launch facility has greatly improved functionality and will benefit users for many years to come.

This was a joint project between the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District.

This project was made possible through a Sport Fish Restoration grant, the Nebraska Game and Parks Aquatic Habitat Stamp – which accompanies the permit anglers purchase – and funding from the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District. Questions can be directed to ngpc.boataccess@nebraska.gov.
