Learn about Amphibians of Nebraska

Discover the fascinating world of Nebraska amphibians with state herpetologist Dennis Ferraro on May 2 at the Schramm Education Center to kick off National Amphibian Week.

This free event offers two opportunities for froggy fun, but registration is required.

  • A session from 2-4:30 p.m. is on Amphibians of Nebraska. Learn about the many amphibians in a lecture-style presentation in the Schramm Education Center Classroom and view live examples of many frog, toad and salamander species. Then, with the supervision of a professional scientist, learn and practice catching and identifying frogs at a pond.
  • A Frog and Toad Call Identification Class will be from 7:30-9 p.m. Learn to identify amphibians by their calls through a classroom presentation followed by a walk down to the park (mile round trip) to hear frogs calling. Bring a headlamp or flashlight.

To register, go to the event listing at Calendar.OutdoorNebraska.gov. or email [email protected]. Registration is limited to 25 people per session. Sessions are recommended for ages 8 and older due to the lecture activity.
