Celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day

April includes Earth Day and Arbor Day, so Schramm is going to celebrate with a day of art and activities inspired by those days.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 6, the Treehouse Classroom will be open for all ages to enjoy. Work on a group artwork project with recycled materials, write a letter to a tree or adopt a tree to observe throughout the year.

Spring Beginner Birding Hike

Beginner birders may listen and look for migrating songbirds and waterfowl April 18 on a guided, early morning hike on Schramm’s river trail.

Bring binoculars if you have them, or binoculars will be available to borrow. This will be a one-hour hike along a flat, grass and dirt path. All ages and experience levels are welcome.

Meet at the shelter next to Pond A at 9 a.m.

Homeschool Hikes set for April 22-23

Homeschool families are invited to join an outdoor educator on a guided hike during the Homeschool Hikes program at 9 a.m. April 22 and 1 p.m. April 23. This month’s theme is Mushroom Madness.

During the program, participants may ask questions, draw, observe, and make discoveries in nature. They will have the opportunity to observe local phenomena, plants, and animals while exploring concepts such as patterns, cause and effect, and structure and function.

Homeschool Hikes is a monthly nature exploration program hosted by the Schramm Education Center geared toward homeschool families and ages 5 and up.

Participants are encouraged to RSVP in advance through the event listing at Calendar.OutdoorNebraska.gov.
