Verdel WMA boat ramp reopens following renovation

The boat ramp at Verdel Wildlife Management Area in Knox County has reopened following completion of a renovation project. The improvements enhance boating access for anglers and hunters along the Missouri River.

The project included reshaping the two-lane ramp to provide an improved launch slope, installing a new dock, improving the accessible route to the top of the boat ramp to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and enhancing lighting at both the ramp and restroom. Riprap and river rock also were placed along the shoreline to help protect against erosion.

Construction was strategically completed during the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ winter drawdown on the Missouri River, allowing for greater ramp extension and efficient project delivery. Navigation support flows from the Corps began increasing in mid-March, improving access to many Missouri River boat ramps as the system transitions into the navigation season.

Boaters now can access the renovated facility. Visitors are encouraged to use caution as they familiarize themselves with the new layout and remain mindful of fluctuating water levels.

The Verdel WMA boating access project was funded through a Sport Fish Restoration grant and proceeds from hunting and fishing license sales.
