Two Rivers Trout Lake opens March 8 with new regulations

The Two Rivers State Recreation Area Trout Lake (No. 5) in Douglas County will open March 8. The lake has been stocked with more than 7,500 12-inch rainbow trout.

Anglers should know a regulation change starting this year gives them the option to practice catch-and-release of the trout in this lake. Another change means the required daily trout tag is only needed March 1 – May 31, rather than March 1 – June 30, as in the past.

Purchase the $6 daily trout tag from the park office before fishing. Each tag allows a daily limit of four trout, with a maximum of three tags per day (12 trout). An adult may share a tag with up to two children under 16, but the total catch remains limited to four trout per tag. Tags are required to be turned back into the park office before leaving.

The Trout Lake is open daily from 7 a.m. to sunset. All anglers, except Nebraska residents under 16, need a fishing license, and all vehicles require a park entry permit. Only one fishing rod and reel may be used per angler.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission stocks the Trout Lake to create an exceptional opportunity for people to experience high catch rates, enjoy some great springtime outdoor recreation, and to introduce some people to fishing.
