Power outage affecting portions of Sherman Reservoir

West Ridge Campground and Thunder Bay fish cleaning station at Sherman Reservoir State Recreation Area are temporarily without power.

Recent heavy rains caused severe erosion in the park, washing out the trench housing the main power line and creating a critical hazard that required an emergency response.

Loup Valley Rural Public Power District crews began work July 14 to repair the damage and restore electricity as quickly and safely as possible. Work is expected to take several days.

The outage may affect camper reservations in the West Ridge Campground, and campers are encouraged to call the park office at 308-745-0230 for updates.

Visitors to the area should use caution and avoid the affected areas for their own safety while repairs are underway.

Sherman Reservoir offers 300 non-pad camping sites without electricity in other campgrounds throughout the park. Find more information at OutdoorNebraska.gov; search “Sherman Reservoir.”
