Phillips Canyon State Recreation Area open to the public

Phillips Canyon State Recreation Area is now open to the public providing expanded outdoor access and improved boating opportunities to the canal system below Johnson Lake SRA.

This newly designated SRA, located south of Lexington in Gosper County, boasts improvements such as a new concrete boat ramp, boat dock, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant parking, and a new concrete vault toilet. The Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District primarily designed these additions, with input and support from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, to improve access and convenience for anglers, boaters, and other outdoor enthusiasts.

The project at Phillips Canyon SRA was made possible by funding from the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District and the Motorboat Access Fund in partnership with Game and Parks, for the site’s design and development.

Phillips Canyon SRA offers excellent access for fishing, paddling, wildlife viewing, and outdoor recreation. A valid Nebraska Vehicle Park Entry Permit is required.
