Eugene T. Mahoney State Park to host summer melodramas

Grab the popcorn and enjoy some light-hearted family fun at a Eugene T. Mahoney State Park melodrama this summer. The melodramas are designed to provide wholesome, family-orientated entertainment.

This year’s schedule, which runs May 23-Aug. 24, features the premiere of three plays:

  • “Peril of the Storm,” written by D. Chapelle, tells the tale of an inept governor, Wally Wessell. One dark night the governor and his bodyguard, Trooper Duper, take refuge at Moldmaster Manor, inhabited by wealthy Mordred Moldmaster, his daughter, his evil brother and his scheming wife. The governor and Duper are seeking shelter from a storm but are unaware that they are in danger as Mordred’s fortune is at stake.
  • “Baron’s Revenge,” written by D. Chapelle, is a story of the great, great grandnephew of Dr. Frankenstein, who has grown tired of his colleagues and the scornful public. Out for revenge with the help of evil assistant, he has stitched together a new monster. See if Frankenstein’s fiancé gets entangled in the evil or the constable stops the doctor before the monster is unleashed.
  • “Troll of Trafalgar,” written by D. Chapelle, follows the story of a priceless artifact known as the golden Troll of Trafalgar, which has been lost for more than 100 years. The previous rumored owners have all fallen victim to horrible ends. Now the Troll has fallen into the unsuspecting hands of Michelle McGee, the niece of the notorious gangster Shorty McGee. Temptation and greed set in, so will there be another victim of the Troll?

Plays are held at The Denman and Mary Mallory Kountze Memorial Theatre, with a rotating schedule. For a complete schedule, visit OutdoorNebraska.gov/location/eugene-t-mahoney.

Ticket prices are $10 per person. For more information, call the park at 402-944-2957. A Nebraska park entry permit is needed for each vehicle entering the park.
