Compete in Steel Plate Challenge at Platte River State Park

Celebrate National Shooting Sports Month by participating in the Steel Plate Challenge on Aug. 9 at the Roger G. Sykes Outdoor Heritage Education Complex at Platte River State Park.

This is a speed-shooting competition, using .22 caliber rifles and handguns, consisting of standardized stages with five steel targets. Targets range in size from 10-inch round plates to 18- by 24-inch rectangular plates and in distance from 7 to 35 yards.

The competition, from 9 to 11 a.m., is open to novice and experienced shooters ages 16 and up.

Firearms and ammunition will be provided. Participants may bring their own .22 firearms but must supply their own ammunition. All firearms must be cased and will be inspected upon arrival. Eye and ear protection provided.

The cost is $20 per person or $10 for those bringing their own firearms and ammunition.
