Catch a kayak event to improve your skills

Get out on the water this month with Nebraska Game and Parks Learn to Kayak events in southeast Nebraska.

A vehicle park entry permit is required and may be purchased at the park entrance or in advance online at OutdoorNebraska.gov.

Learn to kayak in Game and Parks class

Introduction to Kayaking for women is 3 to 5 p.m. July 5 at Louisville State Recreation Area Lake No. 2 near Louisville.

The class is part of the Beyond Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Summer Paddling Series and aims to teach the basics of kayaking. The focus will be on safety, equipment, water entry/exit and paddling strokes.

Cost is $15, and class size is limited to 10 people.

All equipment will be provided, but participants may bring their own kayak or life jackets.

Learn to fish from a kayak

Join Nebraska Game and Parks at Conestoga State Recreation Area to learn how to fish from a kayak from 6 to 9 p.m. July 19.

Class is $15 and limited to 10 people. Kayaks and equipment will be provided, but participants may bring their own kayaks or fishing equipment.

Participants will meet at the northwest entrance to the park; look for the kayak trailer west of the boat dock on the north shore.

Instructors will cover safety, types of kayaks, fishing gear, paddling techniques, where to fish, tackle, electronics, kayak transporting and tournaments.
