Carl’s at Mahoney recently announced it will discontinue food and beverage service beginning Aug. 7.
Carl’s, owned and operated by Carl and Diane Kucera of Litchfield, has provided service in Peter Kiewit Lodge at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park since March 2024.
Carl’s is well known for their quality food and catering and will be missed, according to Jeff Fields, parks administrator for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. “We thank Carl, Diane and family for their outstanding service to the park and wish them the best in the future.”
In the short term, the lodge will provide its guests with coffee and grab-and-go food options. Other in-park food and snack options are available at concessions at the marina and activity center. A long-term plan will be developed later this summer and fall for the 2027 season.
“There are many great local dining options near the park to serve guests,” said Maverick Helgoth, Mahoney State Park superintendent. “We appreciate everyone’s patience during this transition.”
