Bridge work to cause detour at Branched Oak SRA

Some guests of Branched Oak State Recreation Area will be affected by a detour necessitated by bridge repair work.

Work is expected to begin after Labor Day on a Lancaster County bridge on Northwest 140th Street just south of West Branched Oak Road. The project will close Northwest 140th Street between West Branched Oak and West Raymond Road.

Nebraska Game and Parks will post detour signs during the project. To access the SRA’s areas 3 through 8, which includes Middle Oak Creek Campground Area 4 and Liebers Point, parkgoers should detour around the reservoir and use Northwest 140th Street from the north to reach West Branched Oak Road.

A second bridge, located on West Rock Creek Road between Northwest 140th and Northwest 126th streets, will be repaired after the first project is completed. That section of road will be closed during the repair.

The work had been expected to start July 28, but was postponed due to rains and the desire to avoid construction delays for park guests during Labor Day weekend.

Editor’s note: This story was updated Aug. 5, 2025, to reflect construction delays.
