Bluestem SRA boat ramp closed temporarily

The boat ramp at Bluestem State Recreation Area southeast of Lincoln is closed temporarily because of a low water and possible underwater hazards.

Bluestem, like all Salt Valley lakes, relies upon runoff for its water supply.

Parks in the area that have usable boat ramps include Stagecoach, Olive Creek and Conestoga SRAs.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission urges boaters to use caution when enjoying the water this spring. When a lake’s water level falls, less of the boat ramp is under water, reducing the length of the ramp for a successful launch; this can cause problems launching and loading a boat, including damaging a boat or trailer.

Game and Parks recommends boat operators have a spotter with them or check to see if the end of the ramp is visible from the shoreline or dock before launching if water clarity allows.

Once on the water, boat operators should be mindful of the increased possibility of underwater hazards during low-water conditions.

Boaters may find some ramps closed locally by signage.
