In 2026, Nebraska Game and Parks will join the nation in commemorating 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The semiquincentennial is a unique opportunity to connect Nebraskans with the state’s rich natural, cultural, and outdoor heritage. Through this once-in-a-generation milestone, we aim to reflect on our history, foster meaningful partnerships, and provide resources to help conserve our parks, wildlife, and natural and cultural treasures for future generations.

Throughout 2026, Nebraska Game and Parks will host dozens of events and programs tied to the 250th anniversary theme. From First Day Hikes to educational programs, and historical tours to guided naturalist hikes, these events are a way to reflect on the historical and natural history of Nebraska, while enjoying time spent outdoors.
Volunteer in Parks Challenge
Honor America’s 250th birthday by participating in the new Nebraska Volunteer in Parks (VIP) Challenge. Parks across the state will host a variety of volunteer opportunities to help care for our trails, campgrounds, historic sites, and natural spaces throughout 2026.

Outdoor Nebraska 250-Mile Challenge
Throughout 2026, complete a total of 250 miles of outdoor recreation in Nebraska by participating in any combination of your favorite activities, such as walking, hiking, running, biking, or kayaking.
