Ash Hollow SHP to host book signing Sept. 5

Ash Hollow State Historical Park will host a meet-and-greet and book signing Sept. 5 for Martha A. Sandweiss, author of “The Girl in the Middle.”

The event is from 4:30-6 p.m. Mountain time at the visitor center. Books will be available for purchase.

In 1868, Civil War photographer Alexander Gardner posed six federal peace commissioners with a young Native girl wrapped in a blanket. The prints identified each man but not the girl. As “The Girl in the Middle” goes in search of her, it draws readers into the entangled lives of the photographer and his subjects.

Sandweiss, an award-winning author, is a professor emerita of history at Princeton University, where she is founding director of the Princeton & Slavery Project.

A park entry permit is required.
