I-80 construction may affect Pawnee SRA guests

Pawnee State Recreation Area guests who approach the park from the south may be affected by Interstate 80 construction this summer and fall.

As part of a project to widen the interstate to six lanes, the Nebraska Department of Transportation will be working on I-80 and associated bridges now through November. The work will span from Exit 388 (Nebraska Highway 103) to Exit 395 (NW 48th St.).

The interchange ramps at Exit 388 (Pleasant Dale and Crete) will be reconstructed, as well as the overhead bridges that span I-80 at NW 126th, NW 112th, NW 98th and NW 84th streets. Work will include grading, culvert, concrete pavement, bridge, and electrical work.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission recommends those traveling to Pawnee eastbound on I-80 take Exit 395, then take U.S. Highway 6 west to Emerald and follow the signs. Westbound travelers should take Exit 401 and continue west on U.S. Highway 34 for approximately 8 miles. Follow the signs at NW 112th St.
