Three Nebraska lakes recently received an additional batch of rainbow trout, creating more opportunities for anglers and families to spend some time on the water.
These Nebraska Game and Parks Commission hatchery-raised trout are 12 inches or longer – larger than the usual stocking size – and ready to be caught by anglers of all experience levels.
The locations and quantities of the stockings are Halleck Park Pond, Papillion, 600; Fort Kearny State Recreation Area Lake No. 6, Kearney, 550; and Windmill SRA Lake No. 2, Gibbon, 550.
Trout are good for young or new anglers because they will bite readily on things such as corn or a worm under a bobber on an inexpensive spin-cast combo.
Resident anglers aged 16 and older must have a Nebraska fishing permit. A vehicle park entry permit is required at Fort Kearny and Windmill SRAs.
The daily bag limit is five rainbow trout per day with no more than one fish per day larger than 16 inches. The possession limit is 12.
