Hit the trails for prizes in new adventure challenge

Join the Your Parks Adventure: Trail Trek this summer for a chance to explore the state and be eligible for prizes geared toward the outdoor lover.

Launching May 22 and running through Oct. 31, the new challenge invites people to explore more than 45 designated trails across Nebraska — either alone or with a team. Participants visit the designated trails, snap a picture with the Trail Trek sign featuring mascot Kit the Raccoon, and submit it online at YourParksAdventure.com.

Trails included in the program are located at Nebraska Game and Parks areas, as well as participating city, county, federal and Natural Resource District areas. Most Trail Trek locations are within a half mile of trailheads, and nearly half of the trails are Americans with Disabilities Act accessible.

“Trail Trek encourages people of all abilities to join us outdoors to explore trails, see new sights, and explore healthy ways to spend time together or get away from it all,” said Bob Hanover, parks division assistant administrator. “Spending time outdoors is good for your mental and physical health, and Nebraska has many great trails to discover.”

Find the designated list of trails, a map and additional trail details at YourParksAdventure.com.

Each trail visit and entry qualifies participants for possible prizes. The more trails people visit, the more chances they have to win the grand prize that will include outdoor gear, a two-night cabin stay at a Nebraska State Park, an annual subscription to Nebraskaland Magazine, and more. Prizes will be drawn shortly after Oct. 31, and winners notified.

Nebraska Game and Parks is launching the new challenge with support from the Nebraska Recreation and Park Association and Papio Missouri River Natural Resources District. It replaces the well-known Great Park Pursuit but promotes the same value of increasing awareness of the state’s nature-rich outdoor recreation opportunities.
