Upgrades improve experiences at northeast Nebraska state parks

Guests at northeast Nebraska state park areas were treated to some improvements in 2023, with more set to be completed in 2024. The following is a roundup of those improvements and projects:

Ponca State Park

Guests at Ponca State Park’s Resource and Education Center are enjoying their visit in comfort after the installation of a new HVAC system was completed at a cost of $11,600.

Also, building exteriors were upgraded in the North Addition at a cost of $5,000.

Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area

A wastewater treatment project was completed at Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area for $2 million. About $82,000 of electrical upgrades were made to campsites to accommodate the electrical demands of modern RVs.

Niobrara State Park

A wastewater system improvement project was completed at Niobrara State Park in 2023 for just under $1 million.

These state park system projects largely have been funded by Capital Maintenance Funds, which were established by the Nebraska Legislature in 2016 to help preserve Nebraska’s public outdoor recreation facilities and parklands; state and federal funding sources; and Nebraska Game and Parks’ funds generated from user fees of the state park system.
