On-ice clinic at Norfolk’s Skyview Lake cancelled

Because of unsafe ice conditions and extreme cold weather in the forecast, the Jan. 13 Discover Ice-Fishing clinic at Norfolk’s Skyview Lake has been cancelled.

Interested anglers still can attend a classroom clinic Jan. 13 from 10 a.m. to noon at Norfolk’s Northeast Community College, hosted by the Nebraska Fish and Game Association. This will feature presentations by some of Nebraska’s top ice fishermen. Seating is limited, so registration is requested. Visit the calendar event entry at Calendar.OutdoorNebraska.gov to register.

The other Discover Ice-Fishing on-ice clinics, hosted by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s Youth Fishing Program, will be from 1-4 p.m. Jan. 20 at Lincoln’s Holmes Lake (located about mid-lake along the north shoreline drive), and 1-4 p.m. Jan. 27 at Omaha’s Flanagan Lake, 168th and Fort streets. These are where anglers can learn the basics of ice-fishing or pick up a few new tips from experienced anglers.

Limited loaner equipment will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Bait and instruction will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment.

All fishing regulations and permit requirements apply.

A lack of safe ice will force the cancellation of any on-ice events.
