Roger G. Sykes Outdoor Heritage Education Complex

The Roger G. Sykes Outdoor Heritage Complex is a family-friendly shooting sports complex with a focus on safety and family fun located at Platte River State Park near Louisville.

This center features an archery range with a shooting tower, a 50-yard small bore rifle range, a trap range with 5 stand feature and an indoor 10-meter pellet gun range. The ranges were created with everyone in mind, regardless of size, ability or skill level.

Special events

Upcoming special events at the Outdoor Heritage Education Complex:

Introduction to Shooting • August 2018 / 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. • Platte River State Park

Bring the whole family* to the range this summer and learn to shoot. This class is intended for those new and
novice shooters wanting to shoot in a family friendly educational facility. Participants will learn from experienced
instructors on how to shoot safely and accurately. Firearms, archery equipment and safety gear will be provided.

• $15 per person per session
• 10 years & older
• Limit to the first 15 registrations per event
• 2018 Park permit required
• Cancellation prior to one week may be refunded.

Youth Hunter Education Challenge • Saturday October 13, 2018

The NRA Youth Hunter Education Challenge is an advanced hunter education program designed to build and further develop skills taught in basic Hunter Education Courses. This is a free competition, open to all youth age 11 or older who have successfully completed Hunter Education and have not yet graduated from High School. Proof of successful Hunter Education is required.
Participants under the age of 18, must have parent or guardian permission. Firearms, archery and safety equipment will be provided. Participants are encouraged to use their own equipment, but it is not required.

Non-scheduled hours

Non-scheduled hours are available for educational programs, group outings and corporate events. To inquire about events and instruction during non-scheduled hours, email Christy Christiansen or call her at 402-471-5547.

Shooting rates

  • Pellet gun: $5 per person for four rounds (48)
  • Archery and atlatl throwing: $5 per person for 30 minutes
  • Personal archery equipment: $3 per person for 30 minutes
  • Sling shot: $3 per basket of ammo
  • .22 rimfire rifle: $5 per person per for two rounds (20)
  • Personal rimfire firearms: $3 per lane for 30 minutes
  • Shotgun: $5 per person for one round of 25; $7 per person for one round of 25 with range gun and ammo provided; additional $2 for 5 stand sporting clays
  • Hatchet throwing: $3 per person per half hour
