Roger G. Sykes Outdoor Heritage Education Complex

The Roger G. Sykes Outdoor Heritage Complex is a family-friendly shooting sports complex with a focus on safety and family fun located at Platte River State Park near Louisville. This center features an archery range with a shooting tower, a 50-yard small bore rifle range, a trap range with 5 stand feature and an indoor 10-meter pellet gun range. The ranges were created with everyone in mind, regardless of size, ability or skill level.

Upcoming special events at the Outdoor Heritage Education Complex:

Project Appleseed .22 Competition -- Saturday, April 15

This marksmanship clinic is an intensive one-day program held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants will learn the six steps to firing a shot, the natural point of aim, steady hold factors, and much more. Designed for youth and adults 8 years old and up. For more information, view this event on our calendar.

Rimfire Steel Plate Challenge -- Saturday, June 10

Love to shoot? How about a little competition? Then this event is for you! Participants will be using .22 rimfire M&P sporter rifles to shoot at 5 steel plates at various distances.

The object is to shoot one shot at each plate in the fastest time possible. One plate (called the stop plate) sits on a red post; you will shoot that one last. Time is captured by an electronic timer when the rifle is fired. Each participant will shoot several rounds at each station.

For age 8 and up. Safety equipment, firearms and ammunition provided. Pre-registration is requested. For more information, view this event on our calendar.

Non-scheduled hours

Shooting rates

Pellet gun: $3 per person for four rounds (48)
Archery and atlatl throwing: $3 per person for 30 minutes
Sling shot: $3 per basket of ammo
.22 rimfire rifle: $3 per person per for two rounds (20)
Shotgun: $5 per person for one round of 25; $7 per person for one round of 25 with range gun and ammo provided; additional $2 for 5 stand sporting clays
Hatchet throwing: $3 per person per half hour
