Gallagher Canyon is a 400-acre irrigation impoundment with 24 acres of recreation land adjacent in a secluded and beautiful setting. Although a challenge to get to, Gallagher Canyon offers outstanding scenery and some of the state’s best fishing for crappies and line-busting flathead and channel catfish.
Gallagher Canyon offers good spring crappie fishing in the coves, as well as channel and flathead catfish. Drum and carp are common catches also. Fishing is also available for walleye, sauger, white bass and freshwater drum.
For more information on fishing opportunities here and at parks across the state, visit the interactive public fishing areas map. This map provides detailed information on available species, regulations, public boat ramps, fish cleaning stations and ADA-accessible boat ramps and docks, among other features in reservoirs, lakes, streams and rivers statewide. Lake contour maps are available for some lakes, as well.
Gallagher Canyon is part of the Central Irrigation District Supply Canal. The area provides water access to more than 10 miles of the canal and is open to all boats. However, it is a no-wake zone. The canal connects with the Plum Creek Reservoir and Johnson Lake. One ramp and one dock are available.
Gallagher Canyon has 18 picnic tables and 18 grills.
The heavily wooded campground offers 24 non-pad campsites with no electricity. Vault toilets are available. There are no showers, water or dump stations.
A park entry permit is required and may be purchased at statewide Game and Parks offices and permit vendors or in advance of your arrival online.VIEW ALL PARK FEES
