May 17th is Free Park Entry and Fishing Day!

Mahoney State Park - Run Wild 10K Trail Run "A Run for Wildlife" Dressing like a wild animal is encouraged! Registration proceeds support the Nebraska Wildlife Conservation Fund. View/ download / share the Run Wild Event Flyer

Be sure to plan to stay for the day after the Run Wild Event at Mahoney State Park.  Many of the park activities are now open on weekends prior to the Memorial Day weekend. Plan to make a day of it at Mahoney State Park, activities open include:  Free fishing is available at Baright and CenturyLink lakes with kids fishing clinic in the morning.  Horse trail rides, paddle boats, miniature golf & driving range, craft center and disc golf are open.

Platte River State Park
-Free fishing clinic at Owen Landing from 9 AM - Noon.  Snack bar and gift shop will be open.  Restaurant will be offering steak night menu from 5 PM - 8 PM.

Fremont SRA – Kids Fishing Event – 9 a.m. – noon Lake #3, Prizes loaner fishing gear and bait, hotdogs and drinks. For more information, please call (402)727-2922 or email ngpc.fremont.lakes@nebraska.gov.

Alexandria SRA  -  Kid's fishing clinic and family day.  Certified fishing instructors are on hand to assist all ages of anglers. 9:30 am -  2 p.m. Registration begins at  9:30. We will have practice casting, knot tying, and educational videos starting at 9:30 a.m.  Loaner poles & tackle available. We will have 4 grand prizes for the big Carp, Crappie, Catfish, and Bass.  For more information, please call (402)729-5777 or email rick.ball@nebraska.gov.

Fort Robinson State Park – Fishing Derby for children 12 and younger.  9 a.m. – 12 p.m.  Derby participants register to win a Youth Half-Price Lifetime Permit (must be present to win).  Prizes awarded to Fishing Derby Participants at the lake.  For more information, please call (308)665-2900 or email ngpc.fort.robinson@nebraska.gov.

Fort Kearny State Recreation Area – Lake #6 will host all activities for the events at free park entry and Fishing Day.  Fishing equipment and worms for those that need equipment will be provided, a Nature Extravaganza for school age children with prizes, Outdoor Cooking with free hotdogs and marshmallows for the first 50 participants.  The time is 9 a.m. – noon!

Troop Muster, May 17th-18th 2014, Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park
Living historians and reenactors will occupy historic Fort Hartsuff to recreate the life of soldiers and civilians of an army post on the Great Plains of Nebraska.  Cannons and soldiers will be firing and drilling, laundresses and cooks hard at work, blacksmith pounding away, surgeon in the hospital, sentries standing guard, officers present, barracks fully occupied, civilian "town" of tents setup.  Come and see history brought back to life on the grounds of historic Fort Hartsuff and visit the past of Nebraska!


Park entry permit and fishing license are not required on May 17th, however fees for camping, lodging and activities still apply.

Outdoor Adventure
Morel Mile and 5K Mushroom Run at Indian Cave State Park in conjunction with the 3rd annual Outdoor Adventure. After the race stick around for family activities the rest of the day to participate in the fun. Mushroom hunts, fish fry at noon with musical entertainment. Lots of fun for everyone.
